THE DR. ALWYN T. ANDREW-MZIRAY MEMORIAL FUND

Dr. Alwyn Andrew-Mziray

Dr. Alwyn T. Andrew-Mziray, at age 39, died suddenly in Zanzibar, Tanzania. He was a bright and talented, US-trained Emergency Physician who returned to his native Tanzania in 2009 to help pioneer the specialty of emergency medicine. His passion, energy, and enthusiasm played a critical role in the establishment of a new emergency department at Muhimbili National Hospital and an emergency medicine residency program at the Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences, both in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. These accomplishments represent a major step forward for emergency care East Africa. Dr. Mziray was also a tireless advocate for the nurses and doctors who staff the emergency department, providing them with personalized surgical scrubs, lab coats, and much-needed educational materials. These efforts helped facilitate their professional development, while fostering a sense of teamwork and departmental pride. This fund was established in Dr. Mziray‚ memory to continue to support this cause, in which he was so deeply and personally invested. There will be no administrative fees associated with this Fund. One hundred percent of all monies collected will be used to benefit the nurses and doctors of the Muhimbili National Hospital emergency department. We appreciate your kind consideration of supporting this cause.
